Being a woman today: biology, relations, society
We are starting
September 17, 2021
The idea for this Programme was born through a meeting with Margherita Spagnuolo-Lobb at the EAGT conference in Taormina. I have long been interested in the issues of women's existential life in the world, where our intention for personal/social realisation goes alongside (or may be in conflict) with the goal to have a family, to raise children, and to have good relationships with a partner. Many "female" topics are kept in the shadow: difficult or failed pregnancies, postpartum depressions, abortions, depression in menopause. Women keep silence due to shame or blame caused by fixed ideas about the function of reproduction and "female" duties.

During my conversation with Margherita I met her similar interest and wish to support women to navigate their fullest destiny.

"Our programme focuses on issues of female identity, biopsychosocial interconnections, reproductive health, woman's role in social life" - Elena Lasaja, director of Minsk Gestalt Institute.

We decided to challenge ourselves and incorporate a cross-cultural context into our Program. We believe in these difficult times of closed boundaries and isolation as a norm of life, the search for ways of building connections between people is highly important. Women have great power and influence, the gift to create new life and new relations. We invite women from different countries to meet in their similarities and differences, to share difficulties, and to share our power. We also invite men to participate. Firstly, because together we reach wholeness and men's point of view often opens new perspectives. Secondly, male psychotherapists need to understand women's "shadowed" sufferings.

The programme will be translated into 2 languages: Russian and English. We realise that translation can bring some inconvenience, given you have to listen to everything twice. But we really believe these inconveniences will be fully compensated for with real advantages of broader professional and emotional interaction.

1 seminar

2-8 pm Italian
(3-9 pm Moscow)

Elena Lasaja
Embodiment of psychosocial changing: women biology-in-relation.

We appear in this world with certain 'preconditions'. Time, place, family, social position – all these things determine our life. Husserl's "Lifeworld" -the "preconditioned world". A body of a certain sex is a biological precondition that we either adjust to or struggle against. We come to a definite world, to a definite culture and family.

The body "precondition" meets the world's " precondition" building the structure of each other. Within the first seminar we will consider the concept of women's identity and discuss the following issues: How do we experience belonging to the female gender? What does it mean to live in a female body in our times? How are our relations influenced by biology and vice versa? What do we mean by women's psychosomatics?

2 seminar

2-8 pm Italian
(3-9 pm Moscow)

Margherita Spagnuolo Lobb
The field of pregnancy and labor.

Labour and pregnancy are a challenge for couples, not only for women. The seminar offers a model, validated by research, to support women and couples to cope with this crucial moments of their development in a phenomenological, relational and aesthetic way.

3 seminar

2-8 pm Italian
(3-9 pm Moscow)

Elena Lasaja
Pathological pregnancy, perinatal losses and postpartum depression.

The third seminar will consider the sufferings of women's reproductive life. We will get into contact with failure, loss, unfulfilled expectations and frustrations. All these issues are often compounded by solitude and the silence of women suffering from shame and blame.

We will consider how we can overcome these difficulties from professional and personal positions and discuss the support women need on their way through such experiences.

4 seminar

5-8 pm Italian
(6-9 pm Moscow)

Margherita Spagnuolo Lobb and Elena Lasaja

Belonging independence in women today.

In this last seminar we will experiment with creative ways of being women-with … men, other women, our children, mothers… We will nurture a feeling of independent sense of self, and interdependent sense of belonging to a community.

We will experience how it is possible to be creative and not alone, supported by the community we belong to, and in turn form community with a sense of sure ground.
